Dr. Harry La Cava comes to the School District of Indian River County after having spent nearly thirty years serving the children of our nation’s sixth largest school system; Broward County Public Schools. He worked in a variety of capacities including: classroom teacher, Special Education Area Program Specialist, Area Coordinator for Special Education, Principal, Area Director, and Area Superintendent. As an Area Superintendent, Dr. La Cava was responsible for forty-four schools including elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as Technical Centers, Alternative Centers, and Exceptional Student Centers. In addition, he was charged with the administrative supervision of forty-eight charter schools.
Dr. La Cava is a well respected educator, leader, and visionary, with a wealth of knowledge and experience in providing quality educational programs for diverse students in a variety of settings.
He is a graduate of the University of Florida, and holds a Doctorate in Education from Nova Southeastern University.
He is a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Florida Association of School Administrators, and the American Association of School Administrators.
Dr. La Cava has received numerous awards and recognitions throughout his distinguished career, including 1989-90 Principal of the Year for Alternative/Exceptional Centers, and Arts Principal of the year in 1996, in Broward County.
